Athletic
Background
My story is unique because I have no athletic background at all. I played sports as a kid like everyone, but running was what I consider to be my first true team sport. I joined because I was in a bad friend group and needed a way out. I saw running as an opportunity to meet new people.
In 9th grade, my buddy asked me if I wanted to run around Burke Lake as he prepared to get in shape for an upcoming 5K. After multiple stops of I finally finished the 1.5-mile loop we were running. If I had to guess I would say I ran slower then an 8-minute mile pace. Signicantly slower then what I typically run today.
First Run
Today
I started as a walk-on to the UPJ cross country and track but now have a partial housing scholarship. I run every day around 5-7 miles with a longer run of 10-12 miles on Sundays with my teammates. I average around 50 miles a week which I hope to keep up with after graduation.
Today
I have a lot of planned post-graduation races, starting with the Liberty Mile in downtown Pittsburgh. I look forward to beating my teammates one last time. Next, I'll be looking forward to racing a 6 mile run over the Bay Bridge, something I have always looked forward to. Finally, I plan on running a marathon sometime in 2020.

Tip: You can start at any point in your life as long as you put the work in.
